It’s unfortunate to me that most evangelicals either feel intimidated by or afraid of the book of Revelation. It is a beautiful gift to the people of God and one of the more impactful books when it comes to my own confidence and joy in the reign and rule of King Jesus over the cosmos. I am grateful for Michael Rowntree’s book, “The World Made Right.” He has carefully and joyfully pulled the beauty and goodness of Revelation for anyone willing to lean in to that intimidation and have their fears dashed at the majesty of Jesus’ victory over everything.

If you’ve studiously avoided Revelation, convinced that it is unintelligible to the average Christian, this book is for you. In fact, it is for both the uninitiated layperson and the seasoned scholar. I’ve studied and written about Revelation for nearly half a century, and I can honestly say that this short volume has contributed to my understanding as much as, if not more than, the densest and most technical commentaries. Revelation 1:3 rings ever so true to me because of Michael’s book. If you long for the blessing promised to those who read, hear, and obey Revelation, this is the place to begin.

If the older approach of Late Great Planet Earth ultimately failed you, this intriguing alternative will fascinate you. In clear prose, Michael Rowntree draws on a wide range of sources about today’s world yet with a more consistent approach to Revelation. With the skill of a master preacher, he guides you through Revelation in ways that would warm any pastor’s heart.

It is unfortunate that many Christians steer clear of Revelation, since (properly understood) it is both tremendously edifying and endlessly thrilling. I am so thankful for Michael Rowntree’s well-written, wise, and pastoral work in this area. This book can serve any Christian who wants to understand Revelation better, walking them through the entire book and showing its coherence and meaning. Even where I come to a different conclusion, I benefited richly from The World Made Right. If you’ve wanted to understand Revelation better but have been waiting to make an effort, this book is for you!

Far too many folk think the Book of Revelation belongs to the realm of biblical scholars or to speculative prophecy pundits who attempt to decipher its mysteries by interpreting John’s vision through the lens of current events. Michael Rowntree shows the Book of Revelation to be a book of hope, given to God’s people to enable them to navigate their way through a sinful and fallen world, and whose only hope is Jesus Christ’s victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. Rowntree will help you read this wonderful book with new eyes and a new appreciation.

In a cultural moment filled with outrage, fear, tribalism, and competing visions of power, The World Made Right reminds us that God’s kingdom advances through the way of the slain Lamb. Michael Rowntree brings together careful biblical scholarship, compelling storytelling, and a prophetic challenge to the church. This book doesn’t just help us understand Revelation—it helps us understand what it means to faithfully follow Jesus in our own moment.

Michael Rowntree’s “The World Made Right” is simply an outstanding guide to the often elusive, but ever important book of Revelation. Michael is a clear-minded thinker and a superb writer, and he has given us a work that is practical, insightful, and engaging. This book is a delight!

In times of upheaval, Christians often turn to the book of Revelation to find solace and certainty for the future, all the while missing the beautiful Jesus-centered message that resounds for us today. In his carefully researched exposition of John’s visions in Revelation, Michael shows how God’s ways are always the way of the slain lamb. Self-sacrificial love always overcomes evil whether in the first century or the 21st. Michael writes with warmth and creativity, incorporating personal anecdote with biblical and theological insight. Among all the complexity of interpretations, he heartily reminds us that the Good News is clear—God’s justice and judgment always means making the world right.

I preached through Revelation and came out the other side more confident in the Church and more certain in her Christ. The slain Lamb still roars from his throne. Michael Rowntree knows this in his bones. He refuses the end-times circus — no charts, no fear-mongering, no secret escape hatch — and instead pulls back the curtain on what God is doing amid the chaos: Jesus reigns, his church overcomes through suffering love, and the world is being made right. This is hope and courage where most books on Revelation peddle fear.

When Michael handed over the lead pastor position at Wellspring Church to me, I was glad he had recently preached through the book of Revelation so I wouldn’t have to. After reading World Made Right, however, I am feeling inspired, and I am wondering how soon is too soon for me to preach on it. When I think of theology books, I rarely expect to be as deeply moved as I was by some of the moments in this book. World Made Right is personable and practical, and it has helped fill in some gaps in my understanding of the symbols and prophecies in the book of Revelation.
